Check out the footsteps of Hyundai KEFICO’s growth.
Began domestic production of automotive electronic control systems
Hyundai KEFICO was founded on September 3, 1987 as KEFICO Co., Ltd. KEFICO is an abbreviation of the Korea Electronic Fuel Injection Corporation, which shows that our background is the domestic production of electronic fuel injection technology. KEFICO was jointly launched by Hyundai Motor Company and 3 other domestic and foreign advanced companies, and the initial CI (corporate identity) shaped like a pinwheel reflects the company's birth as a joint venture between 4 companies.
Established KEFICO Co., Ltd.
Construction began for a factory (Factory 1)
Began first mass production of the fuel injector in Korea
Strengthened research and development and production technology capabilities
As the paradigm for automobiles shifted from mechanical to electronic, our automotive electronic control technology began attracting more attention in the market. After establishing the Technology Research Center and Applied Technology Center in that order, we increased research staff and laid a foundation for R&D. As a result, we developed and produced control units, sensors, actuators, and modules, along with the fuel injectors, and established product lineups for the automotive engine and automatic transmission control systems.
Established the Technology Research Center
Began mass production of the oxygen sensors
Began construction for the Applied Technology Center
Began mass production of the idle actuator
Reached 20 million fuel injectors produced by the company
Established the Applied Technology Center
Began mass production of the throttle position sensor and intake pressure (temperature) sensor
Completed Factory 2 in Gunpo
Began mass production of the automatic transmission solenoid valve and fuel tank pressor sensor
Began mass production of the integrated control units
Expanded the business base
We began pursuing business diversification based on our capacity to build internal combustion engine powertrain control systems that we had built for more than 10 years. Keeping with automotive technology trends, in 2009, we developed and supplied the hybrid control system for the Hyundai Avante Hybrid, the first hybrid car released in Korea. The 2000s was also the decade that marked our entry onto the global stage. In 2008, we established the China subsidiary to better respond to our Chinese customers, and in 2009, we opened the doors to our Vietnam subsidiary, which is currently our largest overseas production base.
Introduced 6 Sigma
Introduced the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
Began mass production of the lever-type throttle position sensor and camshaft/crankshaft position sensor
Equity adjustment: Hyundai Motor 50%, Bosch 50%
Participated in the Seoul Motor Show
Established the Reliability Center
Began mass production of the purge control solenoid valve, air flow sensor, and engine control units for two-wheeled vehicles
Developed and began mass production of the (theta2) intake manifold module for gasoline engines
Established KEFICO's first overseas subsidiary, the China subsidiary
Began mass production on the electronic control throttle valve and 6-speed automatic transmission control unit
Established the GQMS (international quality management system)
Established the Vietnam subsidiary
Established Chinese subsidiary's Rizhao branch
Began mass production of the on-off solenoid valve and hybrid vehicle control system
Rebirth as Hyundai KEFICO
After liquidating the joint venture with Bosch in 2012, KEFICO became established under the sole management of the Hyundai Motor Company and began developing independent technology. It was a difficult time of internalizing the technology that was once dependent on advanced overseas companies, but in 2015, we successfully developed our own control unit for GDI engines and control unit components and gained confidence in our own capabilities. Today, we are listed among the top 100 global automotive parts companies according to the US automotive magazine, the Automotive News, and we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with advanced companies beyond Korea.
